Creating Independent Learners

Always one to one

Getting one-to-one support is key to helping students learn most effectively.

Stepping Stones is here to help with all levels of math, reading, history, English, test prep (such as SAT / ACT and ISEE / HSPT and more) and other academic subjects by matching you with our skilled subject tutors.

For students who need more specialized support, we’ll make the right match to an academic life coach, an executive skills coach, a learning specialist or educational therapist. Finding the exact right match for the needs of our students is our goal!

My son has benefited from Stepping Stones tutoring for over a year. He routinely works with Jeff M. in person, following Covid safety protocols. These sessions have been very helpful as it has provided steadiness in his learning during uncertain and tiresome zoom online learning. Both Ana and Amber are very much interested in working out an easy schedule with students and parents.

As a Student Support Coordinator at an independent school, I’m always looking for excellent options to refer my students. As soon as I started working with Steppingstones this became one of the ONLY places I highly recommend. Anna Hasbun and her staff are not only warm, approachable, funny but extremely knowledgeable and professional. The level of follow-up they do compares to no other tutoring/test prep center out there. They make sure they connect with teachers, school support staff and family to provide a holistic approach to their interventions. They have connected with all of our students and genuinely care about them. Seeing them thrive becomes something personal for them. I highly recommend Anna and her team!

My kiddos have been coming here for a couple of years. My daughter has had THE best luck with tutors. Her grades have soared and she loves coming. I mean who walks out of calculus tutoring with a huge smile on their face? My daughter does every time because it all clicks. My son attends The Social Club for kids with developmental disabilities. He LOVES it. He’s made friends and is excited every week to go. He has gained wonderful skills with [his tutor]. Anna, the owner, just knows how to pick the right people to work here. It’s is high on my recommendation list.

It’s a good day to… be introduced to a new dyscalculia assessment! Whoohoo! Diving into this one today. Dyscalculia is a math learning disorder which is wildly under diagnosed. “Dyscalculic learners may have difficulty understanding simple number concepts, lack an intuitive grasp of numbers, and have problems learning number facts and procedures. Even if they produce a correct answer or use a correct method, they may do so mechanically and not without confidence.” (DfES 2001). With early intervention by a skilled educator, using a systematic and multi-sensory approach, students with dyscalculia can become confident, and competent mathematicians!

Today in Study Hall we’re taking our notes from class and turning them into something we can quiz ourselves with later. But NOt passively!!! Sure… we could pull the vocab and definitions out and make a quizzable chart- or even just put the vocab on a line above the definition so we can cover up what is below to quiz ourselves later… but what’s even better is turning words into note-taking symbols and abbreviations and adding pictures where we can. Now we’re actively LEARNING *while* creating our study tool for later! Good work, sixth graders! SUPER productive Friday Study Hall!
