Preparing for Successful Admissions to College
Stepping Stones creates individualized experiences for students preparing for these all-important test most often needed for the successful admission to their colleges of their choice.
With a long tradition of assisting students in preparing for the PSAT, SAT and ACT, our courses are individualized and incorporate content review as well as test-taking strategies.
Because we offer private sessions instead of group classes, experienced teachers work directly with students on skills needed to raise scores and on each student’s most effective test-taking strategies.
SAT / ACT Test Preparation
Our ten-week course is completely individualized based on an initial practice diagnostic SAT or ACT.
Students will use their time more efficiently without having to sit through instruction on the material they already know.
Our unique SAT and ACT courses are designed to help high school students become more self-confident and well prepared for these important tests.
- Following the initial full-length diagnostic, students meet with a math tutor and a verbal tutor each once per week for 10 sessions.
- Students are provided with a prep book and binder with resources and practice.
- Practice tests are provided before each session and homework is assigned based on each student’s needs and goals.
- A second full-length final diagnostic is provided at the end of the course.
PSAT / NMSQT
This “junior SAT” is designed to familiarize student with the SAT testing experience.
The PSAT/NMQST results also assess a student’s qualification for Merit Scholarships, as well as other scholarship and enrichment programs.
The Stepping Stones PSAT/NMSQT Test Prep Program includes a PSAT practice diagnostic session and 16 hours of instruction.
We recommend scheduling this over a 10 week period.
In the initial PSAT practice diagnostic session, students meet individually with specially trained PSAT teacher. During follow-on sessions our teachers give an overview of the PSAT, discuss the various types of questions and strategies for answering them, cover scoring and test-taking techniques and approaches and of course, practice tests.
- Course Fee: $1,900
- 16 hours of one-to-one instruction over 10 weeks
- Payment is due on or before the firs session

Prepare for College Level Learning
AP courses cover academic subjects required by most universities. The curriculum and work associated with AP courses prepare students for college level learning expectations. In addition to providing students a head start with college credit, success in AP Exams reflects your academic rigor and preparation for the college level learning experience as part of the college application process.
Our Advanced Placement Program
- Includes Initial Full Length Test and Program Planning
- Content review, practice testing and test-taking strategies are incorporated into each student’s program
- Individually tailored sessions that assist students reviewing material and concepts for any of the AP subject tests
- One to one AP Exam preparation with Stepping Stones tutors help students go deep into the course content, reaffirming what's learned in class and best prepare for AP Exams

ISEE & HSPT
Independent School Entrance Exam
High School Placement Test
Stepping Stones offers a carefully designed program to assist students applying for independent school entrance.
A big part of the admission process is preparing to take one or more tests.
Our individually tailored 2-part program provides:
- An opportunity to practice similar testing
- A supportive, non-stressful introduction and review of concepts that appear most often on the tests
- Plenty of practice
- Confidence building and reduced anxiety through familiarity with the admissions process and testing
- Preparation for the interview experience – if appropriate
A Tailored Two Part Program
Offered to students in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade in the summer or fall.
Part I - Assessment
- An initial intake (telephone, on-line or in-person)
- Administration, scoring, and analysis of an initial full-length practice test (ISEE, HSPT, SSAT or other)
- Consultation appointment. During this 30-minute appointment, the tutor reviews the results of the practice test with the student and parents. They also discuss appropriate recommendations for preparation, school considerations, finding a good match, tutoring, working independently, etc.
- The option of taking a second practice test (ISEE, HSPT, SSAT or other) closer to the time of the actual test date, with feedback on results
- Materials and suggestions that will help simplify and organize the application process
- A test preparation book
- One session with the test prep tutor to review the diagnostic test
- $500 due on or before the diagnostic test.
Part II - Tailored Individualized Tutoring
Based on the outcomes from our assessment, tutoring may be advised. Priority scheduling is given at Stepping Stones with one of our test preparation tutors. Often a minimum of ten sessions of individual tutoring is recommended to adequately cover our test preparation curriculum. Homework is assigned as part of each session.
